Holocaust & Genocide Studies

This course provides a comprehensive study of the Holocaust and the broader concept of genocide. Students will learn about the key events of the Holocaust and analyze how it took place, including the historical, social, and political factors that enabled it. The course examines the definition of genocide, explores the Holocaust through art, memory, and popular culture, and empasizes the importance of survivor and victim testimonies. Students will also investigate strategies for genocide prevention and consider the role of education, remembrance, and civic responibility in combating hatred and intolerance. Through these perspectives, students will develop empathy, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of the importance of preventing future atrocities.Β  This course will also further develop and enhance topics explored in prior social studies courses.
