Introductory Algebra

This course is an introduction to the Reveal series curriculum. It reinforces arithmetic skills, developing the algebra concepts of variable recognition, signed numbers, formulas and single variable equations. Students will be introduced to algebraic symbolism, simplifying expressions, solutions to equations and inequalities, and the graphic representations associated with variables. This course emphasizes the concepts necessary to be successful in Integrated Algebra I.

Course Competencies
  • Order Matters -  Using proper order of operations to simplify mathematical expressions involving integers, decimals, fractions, and exponents.
  • Variable Expressions -  Simplifying, evaluating, and writing variable expressions.
  • Equations and Inequalities -  Solving one and two step equations and inequalities. 
  • Patterns, Relations, Functions -  Identify, analyze and model patterns and trends between two variables using tables, graphs and formulas.
  • Problem Solving with Unit Rates, Ratios, and Proportions -  Utilize ratios and proportions to solve real world applications, and determine the reasonableness of the solution(s).
  • One-Variable Statistics including interpretation of data displays 
  • Rates of Change and Linear Functions -  Identifying and calculating slope in real world applications.
