Message from the Principal
Last week we completed our decennial re-accreditation visit. The visiting team identified many strengths of our school but two of the biggest strengths that they kept coming back to was how dedicated our staff was and how engaged our students were in their learning. I was very proud to see that this group of people outside of our school community recognized this in our staff and students. Thank you to the entire school community for the support that allows us to thrive.
This week spring teams begin competing and we have two opportunities to see our students on stage. On Wednesday there is the small ensemble concert (jazz band, select choir, and string orchestra) and on Friday the Taters perform (with a few special guests). I look forward to seeing you at the events coming up.
Have a great week.
New Hampshire Financial Literacy 300
On Tuesday Bow High School competed in the New Hampshire Financial Literacy 300 championship. I am excited to share that BHS won! Congratulations to our Business teachers Leesa Hudak and Maureen Ariel as well as their team of Captain Colton Currier, Parker Kazanowski, Alex Edraos, Brad Ekstrom, Connor Eno, and Ciaran Duffy.
More Falcon Good News!
Junior Milo Cocola won the Rotary Four-Way Speech contest this past week. Congratulations to Milo as well as the other Falcons who participated in the competition. The Bow Rotary Club is a huge supporter of schools and they provide a number of scholarships each year. Thank you to this organization for all they do for our community.
America 250!
A quintessential American product is Coca-Cola; perhaps one of the most recognized brands in the entire world. Here is a short history of how Coca-Cola was founded as we recognize 250 years of American independence: History of Coca Cola
Flex Days
There are a couple of Flex Days remaining in the 2025-2026 school year with the next occurring on April 15th. These days began in the 2020-2021 school year during the Covid Pandemic and we have had Flex Days each year since that time. Flex Days have been used to provide the opportunity for teachers to work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide support or enrichment opportunities. They have also been used to conduct assessments such as the PSAT and SAT.
For the coming school year we will be transitioning away from monthly Flex Days. There will still be days with alternative schedules and time at the end of each semester to offer remediation. There are a couple of reasons for this change but the biggest factors are to provide more direct instruction for all students during the school year, and to increase student attendance on those days. We will continue to have time in the mornings for students to work with their teachers to receive additional support, enrichment, or to make up assignments.

Service Day: April 22, 2026
Students will sign up for their preferred service day activity on Tuesday in advisory. Following their sign ups parent permission forms will be sent to all families so families know what their child will be doing that day and details of their service project will be shared. Please support your students in reminding them to sign up and the importance of giving back to our community.
Support from Home with Phones
At the start of the year the Governor signed into law a bill preventing students from accessing personal communication devices during the school day. In the past month we have seen an uptick in students using devices and we have been issuing consequences accordingly. We need help from families. Please encourage your students to leave their phone in their vehicle, their locker, or their bag. If we contact you because a student was on their device please help us by reinforcing that this is a state law that we must adhere to as a public school. Thank you for your help.
Parking Update
Please review this update regarding student parking at BHS. This has been updated this week: Parking Update March 2026
In the Classroom
Students in Derek DeAngelis’ Civics class have been studying the United States Constitution and the amendments that have been added since its adoption. The students have been creating their own Constitution booklet in which they summarized each amendment into their own words. A graduation requirement for all New Hampshire students is that they pass the US Naturalization Test. This course, in addition to helping students gain knowledge of American history and government, prepares them to meet this requirement.

Message from the Principal
This week we have our ten year reaccreditation visit from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). This culminates years of work that the staff at BHS have spent implementing recommendations and working towards strengthening our school community. We are excited to share our school with the visiting team and hear their feedback on the things we do well and our areas for growth. Thank you in advance to the students who are helping out this week by giving tours, meeting with the visiting team, and welcoming the visitors to their classes.
Thank you as well to everyone who helped prepare our students for the SAT this past week.
Monday we will have a school meeting to celebrate the work of our art and music students, hear announcements from classes, and watch our improv group perform. This meeting will be a good showcase of the many opportunities available to BHS students.
I hope everyone has a good week and please let me know if you need anything.

In the Classroom
An important role in our school is the role of School Psychologist. This position impacts learning in the classroom by providing educational testing when required, collaborating with case managers on creating IEPs, serving as a resource to students and staff alike, and providing support to students allowing them to engage more fully in their classes. We are fortunate to have Eileen Jordan in that role at BHS. At a previous staff forum Eileen shared with staff how anxiety impacts students emotionally and educationally and her work to increase our knowledge of best practices in working with students has an impact in the classroom.

In the Classroom
On Friday students in our Peer-to-Peer class took a trip to downtown Concord to identify various community resources as part of a fun scavenger hunt. This class guides students in the development of independent life skills. It utilizes a peer coaching model approach to independence, and is geared toward students who are interested in professions that support others. This class focuses on simple housekeeping, pre-vocational skills, meal prep, clean up, social participation skills and lifetime leisure activities. Thank you to all of the staff in our LINKS Program, Katherine Dow, and Jill Pelletier for providing this course and opportunities to our students.

Message from the Principal
This is a busy week for our Visual and Performing Arts Departments. On Wednesday we are hosting the district music concert and on Saturday we are hosting the NHMEA Large Group Festival. In addition there will be student art on display throughout the foyer for people to view as they arrive for the concerts. Thank you to Sarah Bragg, Sophia Tucker, and Alicia Rockenhauser for the support and encouragement they give our students in the creative arts.
There are a couple more opportunities for students to receive SAT preparation this week. Please see my message below for more information. I hope you all have a great week.
Mission Day
The New Hampshire Army National Guard will be running “Mission Day” at Bow High School on Thursday. This event will showcase different careers and provide students with the chance to try a number of activities. This is an entirely optional event that parents need to provide permission for their student to take part in. As part of the day Governor Ayotte will be visiting to see the activities and talk with students. We are excited for this unique event and I would like to thank Derek DeAngelis and Kate Kulacz for all of their work to make this opportunity take place.
School District Annual Meeting and America 250!
Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the School District Annual Meeting. As our moderator Nick Watson said, this style of governance precedes the founding of our nation. State Testing for Juniors
We are one week away from the administration of the state mandated assessment for Juniors, the SAT. I will be meeting with Juniors during Advisory on Tuesday to talk about details and give a pep talk (channeling my inner Herb Brooks). This is a good opportunity for students to both demonstrate what they have learned and to experience what it feels like to take a standardized test. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Upcoming SAT Verbal Prep
The English Department will be offering sessions during Flex Time to help students prepare for the verbal section of the SAT. The next session is listed below and meets in Room 2216:

SAU Strategic Plan
Your feedback will play an essential role in helping us understand what is most important to our community and what you hope to see in the years ahead. By filling out this anonymous survey, you are providing us with critical feedback we need to make sure our plan is serving our students, families, and community well. The only identifying information we ask for is your role (e.g., parent, student, community member, staff member, etc.), so we can understand perspectives from all parts of our community.
We also encourage you to attend our upcoming public forums, where you can share your ideas and perspectives in person. These will be held on March 24th @ 6pm in the Bow High School Auditorium and on March 25th @ 6pm in the Dunbarton Elementary School Library.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to be part of this important work. Please take a moment to watch the short video below.
In the Classroom
On Friday the BHS Concert Band travelled over to Bow Memorial School to participate in a joint rehearsal with the 7th and 8th grade band. The students are performing an exciting, high energy piece that features a quick tempo. Throughout the rehearsal Alicia Rockenhauser and Matt Davis encouraged the students to listen carefully to the instruments around them and to play with consistent articulation. This opportunity, for our musicians across the schools to come together to perform, is just another reason to attend the concert this Wednesday.

Message from the Principal
This week is a four-day week for students. Tuesday is election day in the towns of Bow and Dunbarton and schools are closed. Friday is the Bow School District Annual Meeting. Please refer to messages from Superintendent Kelley with more details.
We are almost at the conclusion of the winter athletic season and our teams have a lot to be proud of this year. From outstanding individual performances, to a team championship, our students worked hard and showed both heart and grit. I strongly believe that the lessons learned during co-curriculars (sports, music, theater, robotics, clubs) are some of the most valuable things that can be taught.
A massive thank you goes out to our coaches and advisors for the hours they spend working with our students. Thank you as well to the families that support our students throughout the season. From helping provide food while a team is travelling, selling concessions at our games, or showing up in the stands to cheer on our students, we are blessed to have the support that we do from the towns of Bow and Dunbarton.
I hope you all have a great week.
Junior Family Night (Post-High School Planning)
We invite you to join us for the upcoming Junior College Planning Night at Bow High School on Thursday, March 12. This evening is a great opportunity for junior students and their families to begin learning more about the college planning process and the steps ahead. This presentation will begin at 6:00PM in the BHS Auditorium. An Education & Career Counselor from Granite Edvance will provide an overview of the college planning timeline, exploring interests and career paths, and an introduction to the college application and financial aid processes.
The BHS School Counseling Department will also share how students use SchooLinks to manage their college search, track applications, and request letters of recommendation.
In addition to our program at BHS, there is another great opportunity later this month for families who would like to learn more about the college planning process. On Saturday, March 28th at Plymouth State University, Granite Edvance will be hosting an event. Destination College is a free statewide college planning event for New Hampshire juniors and their families. Attendees can participate in college planning workshops, learn about the college application process, and attend a college fair. Destination College Information and Registration
Math Tutoring: Every Friday Morning (7:30 - 8:15)
Students who are in the National Honor Society are offering math tutoring, especially Geometry, every Friday morning 7:30 to 8:15. This is a great opportunity to get additional support in math courses.
Indoor Track Success
Your D2 State Champs - Gavin Buxton, 55m dash & Camden Wilson, High jump - represented BHS well last Saturday at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championship in Boston!
After clearing a personal best height of 5'4" at the state meet, Camden bested it again by clearing 5'5" to earn a podium finish of 5th place!! It was an incredible feat in a three hour long battle amongst the best jumpers in ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, & CT.
Gavin raced to 18th place in the 55m out of all of New England.
Both athletes are excited to have qualified at the national level and will be competing March 13-14 at New Balance Nationals!! Outstanding efforts for both and we look forward to seeing what they can do this spring in our outdoor season.
State Testing for Juniors
The state mandated testing of Juniors is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th. The test the state uses, the SAT, provides all students the opportunity to experience what sitting for a standardized test feels like and also provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their career and college readiness. Last year, the Class of 2026, performed very well raising school scores and outpacing NH public and private schools. We would love to see this trend continue.
Families, you can help by emphasizing that regardless of a student’s future plans they should attempt to do their best on this assessment. Getting a good night’s rest the day before would also be beneficial. In addition to the test strategies prep that we provided all Juniors, both our English and Math Departments are continuing to offer content specific preparation. You can find out more about that below.
Upcoming SAT Verbal Prep
The English Department will be offering two sessions to help students prepare for the verbal section of the SAT.
Both sessions will be held in 2216 during morning flex.
Upcoming SAT Math Prep
Our Math Department is offering SAT Math prep during Flex on the days below. Please note that they have scheduled one of these sessions to coincide with a day that CRTC is not in session:
SAU Strategic Plan
We are currently in the process of developing a new strategic plan that will guide the future of our schools, and your voice is an important part of that work.
School District Meeting
The Bow School District meeting is Friday at 6:00PM. Below is a video the district has created explaining one of the things that voters will discuss, Open Enrollment:
Visit from Governor Kelly Ayotte
On March 19th Bow High School will be hosting Mission Day in cooperation with the New Hampshire Army National Guard. Governor Ayotte will be here that day to meet students and say a few remarks. I am excited our students have the opportunity to hear from our elected officials and meet them in person.
School Dance on March 14th
Tickets are on sale now through Thursday. All guest forms (found Here) need to be completed by Thursday. The dance will last from 7:00 - 10:00. Thank you Class of 2026 and their advisors, Joe Conti and Dan Attori, for organizing this event.
School Events
On Friday we had a musician come to our school to perform for students and staff. This artist has travelled the world and we were very lucky to have had this opportunity presented to us. I think if you ask the students who were there they would tell you what an amazing performance it was.
We have school meetings and school events to build community and provide shared experiences for students and staff. There is a direct correlation between a positive school environment, attendance, and academics. Shared experiences bring people together. I would like to ask that in the future, unless there is an already scheduled appointment, that families do not dismiss their student from these events. There are many ways to build a positive community and these events are one such way. Thank you for your support.
In the Classroom
Students in Integrated Life Science have been studying genetics and learning about such topics as dihybrid crosses and Punnett Squares. On Thursday, students in Lucy Koup’s Period 8 class began preparing for a “Fast Plants Lab” in which students will hypothesize whether the offspring of a plant will be tall, short, purple, or green. Dave Niemszyk, Amanda Guilbert, and Lucy Koup, our ILS teachers, mix direct instruction with hands-on activities to engage students in discovery and analysis.

Message from the Principal
This is a busy time for us at Bow High School as welcome students back from February Break. Hopefully the school community had a fun and relaxing week off from classes.
March is Music in Our Schools Month and I cannot wait to hear what our students have been working on in their classes. We will also have many examples of student visual art on display during the District Art Show this month. In addition to this, we will be hosting the New Hampshire Army National Guard’s Mission Day, an event that is a great opportunity to learn about careers in the military. Governor Ayotte will be visiting our school to check out Mission Day and meet some of our students. Lastly, our Winter Athletic Teams will be involved in playoffs and we wish all of them the best as they get ready to compete.
Have a great week.
Wrestling - State Champs Again!
Congratulations to the BHS Wrestling Team for winning their third straight State Championship! The individual and team effort was tremendous and we are proud of both our athletes and coaches.
School Meeting on Friday
On Friday we will have a special School Meeting with a performance by Lindsay Deutsch and Jason Stoll. According to their press release “this powerhouse duo takes the crowd on a whirlwind journey through the hits of the centuries, expressing a variety of musical styles from classical to jazz to the popular hits of today. Trained at the world’s top conservatories, Lindsay Deutsch and Jason Stoll showcase their dazzling technique as they perform masterpieces by the rock stars of yesteryear such as Bach and Beethoven; and draw parallels to the entertainers that audiences grew up with including Frank Sinatra, Elton John, and Billy Joel. Spiced with humor and laughs and a bit of history, audiences everywhere rave about these unique artists and their diverse and entertaining programming.”
The guest artists are coming to BHS at a specific time due to their travel and performance schedule so the bell schedule is altered that day to account for this. Here is the schedule: March 06, 2026
StateTesting for Juniors
There are two upcoming events that have a big impact on our school. The first is the state mandated testing which will occur on March 25th for all juniors. The state uses the SAT as the accountability test for schools and we have been providing preparation for our students so they can do their best.
The SAT itself is used to determine college and career readiness after high school. Students applying to colleges and universities usually need the SAT as part of their application process. For students who may not be intending to apply to college after high school, the SAT is an opportunity to sit and practice taking a standardized test. Many professions, from police officers to master electricians, to drivers who need a CDL license, are required to take some sort of exam to advance in their career. This is a good opportunity for students to practice taking an exam of this nature so when they are out of high school they have familiarity with the experience.
Currently, scores on the SAT are used as the primary metric to rate schools. We hope to have every Junior test on the 25th because any students who does not test have a score entered as a “zero” which impacts the school’s performance metric. See below for information about upcoming SAT math preparation.
Decennial Reaccreditation Visit
Bow High School, as is true of almost all private and public schools in the state, is an accredited institution. Every ten years we are required to go through a reaccreditation process as part of our membership in NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges). Our reaccreditation visit is set for the end of the month. This visit culminates years worth of work by staff at Bow High School. During the visit we will want to show those on the visiting team all of the things that make our school unique. At the conclusion of the visit we will be given a report that will highlight the many awesome things taking place each day, as well as areas we can continue to improve upon. Students will have the opportunity to meet with the visiting team to talk about their experience in school and the visiting team will speak with staff throughout the three days they are here. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.
School Dance on March 14th
Our next school dance will be held on March 14th. Students, be on the lookout for information regarding tickets this week. Here is the guest form if you would like to bring a guest from another school.
Poetry Out Loud
BHS student Paige Rabalais recently competed in the semifinals of Poetry Out Loud and did a great job. As a result she will be moving on to the state finals on March 6th. Good luck Paige.
Vex Robotics
For the third year in a row Bow High School will be sending a robotics team to the world championships! This year the championship will be held in St. Louis, MO. Congratulations to students Allison Baier (sophomore), Derek Baier (senior), Colton Currier (senior) and Dirk van der Merwe (senior).
Universal Team Update
In Universal Team Advisory Fun:
We have been teasing a March 3v3 basketball tournament since the popularity of the November dodgeball tournament, and here it is! Put together your team for 3v3 advisory basketball action! Chat with your advisory this coming week, and please sign up by this Tuesday March 3rd. Many have already entered but who will take home the prize and be known as the first champs?!
There will also be a chance to compete against each other to fill out a bracket with your advisory for the NCAA men’s and women’s tournaments as well!
Upcoming SAT Math Prep
Our Math Department is offering SAT Math prep during Flex on the days below. Please note that they have scheduled one of these sessions to coincide with a day that CRTC is not in session:
In the Classroom
In addition to being the Head Librarian at Bow High School, Sam Dixon often goes into classrooms to help teach students how to conduct research using a variety of online databases and resources. One of the most important skills, I believe, is evaluating sources and identifying credible information. Mr. Dixon shows students how to use resources such as the EBSCO and Gale databases when they do research so they have access to a wide variety of sources for their projects and writing.

Message from the Principal
This is our last week before February Break and there is a lot going on at BHS. On Wednesday we have a Flex Day. There is information below about the assigned times 11th grade students will have to prepare for the SAT in March. We also have a lot of athletic events taking place as the Winter Season heads towards playoffs and tournaments.
Please let me know if you have any questions and enjoy the February Break next week.
SAT Prep for Juniors
This Wednesday, during the Flex Day, all Juniors will be assigned a 45 minute time slot to take part in a free SAT prep session. These sessions, which will focus on strategies to be successful on the SAT, are offered by Knower Academics. Knower Academics has successfully prepared students for the SAT for many years and we are fortunate to be able to provide this preparation to all of our Juniors free of cost. This prep session is in addition to the voluntary sessions that our Math Department has been offering to help prepare students for the test.
The SAT is the state mandated accountability test that we are required to administer to all students in Grade 11. We are planning to administer the SAT on March 25th and I will be sending out additional information closer to that date.
Scoop from the Senate
Senate Forums are now fully up and running, and happening MONTHLY. The next forum will be held on February 19th. The topic is Graduation Requirements. Keep an eye out for a forum on PARKING in the future. Additionally, as spring approaches, Senate will be holding a few fundraisers to support senior scholarships, so be on the lookout for those as well.
Congratulations Dominic Catalfimo
Senior Dominic Catalfimo represented Bow High School at Jazz All-State this past weekend. Dominic was the only student there who had been selected all four years. This is quite an honor and a testament to his musicianship and hard work.
Visitors to BHS
We love when families and the community come to BHS for concerts, plays, and sporting events. However, at some of our most recent events, cars have been parked in such a way that emergency vehicles would not have been able to get to the building. This cannot occur. Please help make events at the school safe by parking in one of our lots. Thank you.

During last week's school meeting, we had Milo Cocola give a brief speech about a cancer charity soccer match he is participating in. Matei Botha will also be playing and representing our school. Here is the link for donations, please put “Milo Cocola”, “Matei Botha”, or “Bow High School” in the description to show your support. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the cancer institute at Mass-General Brigham as they strive to find cures for Glioblastoma, the most common cancerous tumor. Reach out to Milo at mcocola@sau67nh.gov or and see the attached flier for further information.

America 250!
Two individuals who represent American perseverance and ingenuity are Orville and Wilbur Wright. In 1903 they successfully tested an airplane which ushered in a new era of travel around the globe. Here is a link to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum website which talks about both the history and science behind their flight: The Wright Brothers. If you are interested in a great book about the brothers I recommend The Wright Brothers by David McCullough.
Message from the BHS Universal Team
We have been teasing a March 3v3 basketball tournament since the popularity of the November dodgeball tournament, and here it is! Put together your team for 3v3 advisory basketball action! In the Classroom
Integrated Physical Science is the required 9th grade science course students at Bow High School take. This course, taught by Joe Conti, Bethany McKilen, and Lucy Koup, has been studying protons, neutrons, and electrons. This week students used an electrophorus to transmit electrons from one object to another via the process of electrostatic induction. The lab they completed in class involved a hands-on approach to learning which is a hallmark of science courses at Bow High School.

Message from the Principal
Thank you to our World Studies teachers and students for the work they had on display this past Friday. It was awesome walking throughout the building and seeing all of the things students learned about countries around the world.
This week we are excited to host a Career Fair on Wednesday. All of the classes were sent sign-up information early last week and I have included that information here: Career Day Signups. The deadline to sign up for sessions is Monday. Thank you to our School Counseling Team, and especially Kate Kulacz, for their work organizing this event.
I hope everyone has a great week - Go Team USA!
Exciting News from the BHS Indoor Track Team
All of our Indoor Track Team’s events take place off of campus so I wanted to highlight some recent successes the team has had. At last weekend’s D2 Championship (the first of two days) four of our female high jumpers won gold (top 6 finishers earned medals). Keegan O'Meara (sophomore) and Emma Bryant (freshman) both rose to the occasion by hitting their first two heights on their first attempt, which set them up for a tie for 5th place. Madison Pfister (junior) tied for 3rd place with a 5ft jump! And Camden Wilson (junior) used all her High Jump competition experiences of the past to maintain the strongest possible mindset under pressure to clear her personal best of 5'4" for the D2 State Championship title! Her mark puts her in the record books in a tie for the divisional record. In addition, Camden finished in the top 6 across both divisions and will now compete at the New England Championship on Feb 28 in Boston.
Our girls (Julia Hou, Madison Pfister, Keegan O'Meara, and Mary Valas) and our boys (Wyatt Worcester, Ian Sandahl, George Kohl, and Ryan Pawlowski) 4x800 relays also competed last weekend. They gave their all in setting personal best times for the season.
Part 2 of the State Championship will be today at Plymouth State. Gavin Buxton currently holds the fastest time in the 55m dash in the state across all divisions!! It's going to be another exciting day!

The Navajo Code Talkers were Native American Marines in WWII who created an unbreakable, 211-word code. Developed in 1942, this code significantly aided Allied victories across every major Marine operation in the Pacific Theater, including Iwo Jima, by transmitting secure, real-time messages. Here is information about these Marines from the WWII Museum in New Orleans: Navajo Code Talkers

Friday was our annual World’s Fair day at BHS. Although what was presented Friday was impressive, even more work was done in the weeks leading up to the fair as students practiced research, writing, and public speaking skills in their classrooms. Here are some photos from the day (thank you Mr. Dixon): Worlds Fair 2026
