Spanish 2

This course will aid students in the development of the six language skills beyond the basic level. Greater emphasis will be placed upon oral fluency; students will now be required to use Spanish to communicate in the classroom. Students will continue to learn about Hispanic culture through short stories, advanced readings, films and activities. Material in level two language courses include present tense, preterite, imperfect, indirect/direct objects, future, conditional, negative/affirmative, superlatives, relative pronouns, commands.

Course Competencies
  • COMMUNICATION: Given opportunities to communicate in writing, orally and manually, the student is able to effectively engage others in a manner appropriate to the level being studied. The student combines vocabulary, grammar, and culture to communicate the themes being studied. Students demonstrate a concerted effort to improve pronunciation and accent.
  1. Students will be able to demonstrate what one must do using hay que and tener que as well as what is forbidden to do with se prohibe.
  2. Students will be able to make comparisons using both nouns and adjectives.
  3. Students will be able to ask for how long someone has done something as well as be able to respond to that question. 
  4. Students will be able to correctly use the two verbs saber and conocer.
  5. Students will be able to use reflexive verbs as well as possessive adjectives both before and after the noun. 
  6. Students will be able to speak about going shopping at a variety of locations, fashion and using adjectives as nouns. 
  7. Students will be able to use commands to give directions.
  8. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of when to use the preterite and imperfect tenses. 
  9. Students will be able to speak in both the future and conditional tenses.
  • COMPREHENSION: Given a variety of assignments appropriate to the level being studied, the student demonstrates an understanding of the language, including thematic vocabulary, written passages, auditory input, and cultural relationships.

Through their own creation of language, students demonstrate that they can utilize the vocabulary, grammatical structures, and culture being studied to successfully participate in class activities and complete out of class assignments
