Spanish 4

This course will aid students in the further development of language proficiency. Students will be expected to speak Spanish daily. Grammatical concepts, vocabulary and culture will be explored through the reading of various genres and styles of Hispanic literature. The practice of all six skills will continue. Material in level four language courses include negative with subjunctive, pluperfect subjunctive, relative pronouns.

Course Competencies
  • COMMUNICATION: Given opportunities to communicate in writing, orally and manually, the student is able to effectively engage others in a manner appropriate to the level being studied. The student combines vocabulary, grammar, and culture to communicate the themes being studied. Students demonstrate a concerted effort to improve pronunciation and accent.
  1. Students will be able to convey their understanding of jokes, poetry, essays, short stories, and novels within a cultural context.
  2. Students will be able to communicate using the appropriate tenses including all previously taught tenses as well as the following: imperfect/preterite tenses, object pronouns, por/para, negatives with subjunctive, pluperfect subjunctive, conditional perfect, demonstrative adjectives & pronouns, relative pronouns, pluperfect and future perfect.
  3. Comfortable discuss current topics and contemporary issues relevant to Spanish countries and students' lives.
  4. Students will be able to discuss the historical and/or cultural significance of the topics studied in the literature presented.
  • COMPREHENSION: Given a variety of assignments appropriate to the level being studied, the student demonstrates an understanding of the language, including thematic vocabulary, written passages, auditory input, and cultural relationships.

  2.   • PRODUCTION: Given written, oral, and manual forms appropriate to the level being studied, the student demonstrates an ability to accurately produce language. Through their own creation of language, students demonstrate that they can utilize the vocabulary, grammatical structures, and culture being studied to successfully participate in class activities and complete out of class assignments
